1. Introduction
Christian Lock("we," "us," or "our") is an iOS application developed by Juan Almena. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our application ("App").
Christian Lockis designed to help individuals strengthen their prayer habits by temporarily blocking distracting applications on their iPhone using Apple's Screen Time framework. We are committed to transparency and to your privacy.

2. Information We Collect
2.1 Analytics Data (PostHog)
We use PostHog, a product analytics platform, to collect pseudonymous usage data. This includes:
- In-app events (e.g., screens visited, buttons tapped, prayer sessions completed, paywall interactions)
- Session duration and feature usage frequency
- Device type and operating system version (non-identifying)
We do not collect your name, email address, or any personally identifiable information (PII) through PostHog. Analytics are used solely to improve the App. We do not sell this data to third parties.
PostHog data is processed in the United States. For more information, see PostHog's Privacy Policy.
2.2 Subscription Data (RevenueCat)
We use RevenueCat to manage in-app purchases and subscriptions. RevenueCat processes the following data on our behalf:
- A pseudonymous user identifier generated by RevenueCat (not linked to your Apple ID or personal data by us)
- Purchase history and subscription status
- Transaction metadata provided by the App Store (e.g., product ID, purchase date, renewal status)
We do not have access to your payment card information. All payment processing is handled exclusively by Apple through the App Store. For more information, see RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
2.3 Screen Time & Local Device Data
Christian Lockuses Apple's Screen Time API (Family Controls framework) to monitor and restrict app usage on your device. This is the core functionality of the App.
Screen Time data never leaves your device. Information about which apps are installed or blocked is processed entirely on-device through Apple's secure Family Controls system. We do not collect, transmit, store, or have access to any Screen Time data, app usage statistics, or device activity reports on our servers.
The App stores certain preferences locally on your device using AsyncStorage and App Group shared containers (e.g., your streak count, schedule preferences, onboarding state). This data is not transmitted to us.
2.4 Bible Database
The App includes a local Bible database (SQLite) stored on your device. Bible reading activity is not transmitted to our servers. Usage events (e.g., chapter opened) may be tracked anonymously via PostHog as described in §2.1.
2.5 No Account Required
Christian Lock does not require you to create an account. You can use all features without registering or providing an email address. All personal preferences, prayer data, and settings are stored locally on your device and are not associated with any user profile on our servers.
2.6 Crash Logs & Diagnostics
Apple may collect crash logs and diagnostic data through its standard iOS diagnostics tools, subject to your device's privacy settings and Apple's Privacy Policy. We use this information solely to identify and fix bugs. This data does not include personal information.
2.7 Data We Do NOT Collect
We explicitly do not collect:
- Your name, email address, or Apple ID
- Your location
- Your contacts or messages
- Camera or microphone access
- Any data used for advertising or cross-app tracking (IDFA)
Our privacy manifest declares NSPrivacyTracking: false, meaning we do not track users across apps or websites for advertising purposes.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the data described above to:
- Operate and improve the features of Christian Lock
- Verify your subscription status and unlock premium features
- Analyze product usage anonymously to understand how users interact with the App and make it better
- Provide customer support when you contact us
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.
4. Data Sharing & Third-Party Services
We share limited data with the following third-party services solely to operate the App:

Note on Artificial Intelligence Services: When you use our personalized daily prayer or Bible chat features, pseudonymous data (such as your chosen mood, selected feelings, and chat inputs) is transmitted securely via our API gateway to third-party artificial intelligence engines (like OpenAI and Anthropic) to generate the responses. No personal identifying information (PII) such as email, phone number, physical location, or Screen Time data is ever sent to or processed by these AI services. The data is processed solely to fulfill your specific spiritual requests and is not used for profiling, target advertising, or AI training.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for marketing or commercial purposes.
5. Apple Screen Time API — Detailed Disclosure
Christian Lock integrates with the following Apple frameworks under the Family Controls entitlement (com.apple.developer.family-controls):
- FamilyControls: Requests user authorization to manage app restrictions on the device
- ManagedSettings / ManagedSettingsStore: Applies app blocking rules locally on-device
- DeviceActivity: Schedules and monitors blocking windows (e.g., until a prayer is completed)
- ShieldConfiguration / ShieldAction: Displays the custom lock screen and handles unlock requests
Purpose limitation:We use these APIs exclusively for the user's own productivity and spiritual well-being — to help them choose to block distracting applications until completing a prayer. We do not use these APIs for parental monitoring, surveillance of other people, or any purpose other than voluntary self-restriction requested by the user.
Screen Time authorization is requested on-device directly from Apple. The App cannot function without this authorization, and authorization can be revoked at any time from Settings > Screen Time.
6. Data Retention & Deletion
Local device data (preferences, streak data, onboarding state) is stored on your device and can be removed at any time by uninstalling the App.
Analytics data (PostHog): Pseudonymous event data is retained by PostHog for up to 7 years in accordance with their retention policy. Since events are pseudonymous (no PII), direct deletion requests may not be possible; however, you may contact us and we will work with PostHog to delete identifiable records if any are found.
Subscription data(RevenueCat): Retained as required by RevenueCat's policies and applicable financial regulations.

7. Children's Privacy
Christian Lock is rated 4+ on the App Store and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data, please contact us at juanoalmena@gmail.com and we will promptly delete it.
8. Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Sensitive operations (payment processing, Screen Time authorization) are delegated to Apple's secure frameworks. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at juanoalmena@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.
California residents (CCPA): We do not sell personal information. You have the right to know what information we collect and to request deletion.
EU/EEA residents (GDPR): Our legal basis for processing pseudonymous analytics data is our legitimate interest in improving the App. You may object to this processing at any time.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
